Annual General Meeting December 2017

The meeting attracted a number of members of the public, interested in the activity of the Uckfield Community Hospital League of Friends (LoF). The Chairman, Bernard Trew, was able to give an update on the numerous and varied ways in which the LoF had supported the hospital. The single largest donation was the delivery of equipment to help bariatric patients (morbidly obese) move around the special needs dental unit in comfort and safety. Mr Roy Thompson presented the accounts, which continued to be on a sound footing. Of course everyone was acutely aware and grateful for the extremely generous legacy left by the late Mr & Mrs Robertshaw. Mr Thompson also reminded the meeting that the transfer of the old charitable fund into the new fund was now complete. Frustrations were expressed by the slow progress in obtaining the land for the proposed extension of the car park.

A number of reports were tabled from the various recipients of the LoF support. This feedback is clearly important and welcome.

The officers were due for election and I am pleased to say all were happy to continue and were therefore re-elected. A vote of thanks was given to the Chairman, Mr Bernard Trew, Mr Chris Macve, Mr RoyThompson, and of course our secretary Joan Stocker, for their tremendous hard work.

Finally the Chairman reminded the meeting the need to constantly raise money to fund our work. He drew attention to the “100+” scheme, which has excellent prizes £20, £15 & £10, as well as bi-annual bonus prizes. This has been a very useful method of fund raising but it needs more participants. There is an application form below, or one can be obtained from the secretary (joan-stocker@sky.com)

Finally the meeting was rounded off by an excellent presentation from David Scott-Ralphs CEO of St Wilfred’s Hospice Eastbourne, which is of course is our “local” hospice. He was able to vividly outline the aims and achievements of the hospice movement and St Wilfreds in particular. He also helpfully explained the relationship between the hospice and other charitable organisations. It was a great presentation, which was very well received. We are grateful for him giving up his time to talk to us all.
